MEX, presented by Marco Zanini (Re-Sign) in response to a call for bids announced by the Municipality of Varese in conjunction with Kfield Comunicazione and numerous not-for-profit organisations, is a regeneration project of the former Municipal Abbatoir of Varese. Situated in an area of 33,000 sq.m. of the former abbatoir (Macello del Ventennio), now the site of a municipal warehouse, the project seeks to create an innovative residential home for self-sufficient elderly people who are cohoused with students, a market with catering based on local produce, an arthouse multiplex cinema and an exhibition space as well as a cold food and hot food chain available to not-for-profit organisations and large green spaces dedicated to the reuse of building materials.
